This has been a bit of a crummy week. It started well, with a good (uneventful) appointment with the kidney doctor and my Tac level was spot on. But, on Wednesday, something that first afflicted me in hospital made a painful and unwelcome reappearance. The GP said it was probably a combination of post-op constipation accompanied by hospital food and not moving very much. Now I have started to move a lot more, they’re back. Another all-too-common but unspoken taboo… Piles.

As anyone who has been afflicted will know, there is no respite from the discomfort and after a totally sleepless night I called the doctors. The GP was excellent. I called as soon as the surgery opened and they called me back 40 minutes later. An hour after that I was furnished with more medications dispensed by the local chemist. This timescale must be a world record! However the ointment the doctor game me only does so much and painkillers don’t really make a discernible impact. Needless to say I have spent the week sitting in odd positions, trying unsuccessfully to sleep (the most comfortable position is standing up, which makes sleep a challenge) and having warm baths. Every time I move I exclaim like General Melchett out of Blackadder Goes Forth.
So this is a short one. Apparently this hangover of my stay in hospital is very common and will sort itself out eventually. In the mean time it’s a matter of sitting on a doughnut cussion, distracting myself petting the cats and spending money online. eBay is doing very well out of me lately.
Laters…
