Sorry for having a downer on you all last week. I really did feel terrible and could not have envisaged how effective my dialysis treatment would be. Last week my line was (rather gruesomely) inserted into my neck and I had my first session of treatment that same day. This was followed up on Wednesday and another on Friday and by Friday evening, I was feeling drunk. The treatment is painless and tedious and, like my symptoms, this feeling of relative wellness is difficult to describe. People say I look brighter and that I am talking more. God help you all.
I had other cause to be happy on Friday. My friends at Trentham Running Club awarded me the ‘Achievement of the Year’ award for completing all 100km of the ‘Race To The Stones’ last summer (More Here). This much coveted award is usually reserved for runners who have qualified for their country or brought home silverware; I never considered that a slow, sick runner like me could deserve it and I am truly humbled. I share the award with my friends Alison and Sarah, Kerry and James, without who I would not have finished. It was a team effort.
Tomorrow I venture into the office. I am riding high on a wave of optimism, brought on by not having a headache or throwing up whilst simultaneously being a member of the greatest running club on the planet. I am minded not to get carried away and do too much dashing about, but Mrs M will now allow me to go out and drive without supervision, which I consider to be huge progress. Tomorrow evening I will have the nurses plug me again for another fun filled evening of dialysis and I am happy to say, in the words of Doc Emmet Brown, It works! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! IT WORKS!
